blog4-Ms Ivy Chan-Zhou Shaowen-"Tastes and Preferences"

There are several differences between our parents and us, teenagers. Some major differences are on the way of spending money, the preference of music, and the computer skill.
In terms of the way of spending money, parents are more conservative than us. For instance, when they go shopping, they usually only purchase the items they really need and try their best to avoid wasting money. Similarly, if they obtain extra money, they will be more likely to save it rather than use it immediately. On the contrary, we care less about spending money. The reason is that we concern more about whether we enjoy ourselves now rather than if we will have an easy life in the future. As a result, when we go shopping, we will spend a lot more money just to enjoy ourselves.
As for the preference of music, we are more open-minded to pop music. Some pop music stars such as Lady Gaga can be hard for parents to accept. Because of Lady Gaga’s crazy performance, a lot of parents consider her as a crazy girl. However, many of us are in favour of her songs just because they love her enthusiasm.
Another significant difference is that we usually concern more about new improvements on information technology. When a new computer or smart phone has been released, we usually pay more attention about the detail of it and may pursue it. But parents often do not care about it, and sometimes they just ignore it.
To conclude, there is no doubt that our parents have some different preferences with us. So we can just accept the differences and be tolerant with them.

  2. I think my father is also very open-minded on music. He can actually sing many pop songs better than me.
