Blog 4) "Mr Seto"-"Zhu Zikun"-"post-60s has more sense of urgency than post-90s"-"Theme: Comparison of different generations"

vs.

Son: Dad, you seem a little unhappy. What's wrong?
Father: Oh, dear! My company doesn't go smoothly now, and some of my colleagues who had been working with me for years has been fired,so I am really worried that I may be the next job loser.
Son: Umm… I don't understand why you are worried about this. There is no need to worry until the matter comes, so now, just enjoy your life lah~

The above conversation is a typical one between people of my generation, known as the post-90s, and people of my parents' generation, called the post-60s. It reflects that the post-60s has more sense of urgency, while we post-90s usually do not bother to be worried.
Our parents were born during the period when most people in China were suffering from poverty. Their tough experiences in their childhood have formed their hardship consciousness. On the contrary, we grew up in a well-off environment, so we are generally carefree.
This difference of consciousness leads to different attitudes and preferences in daily life. For instance, most of our parents have been saving money just in case. However, for us, running out of money is even not a problem, and we are accustomed to using credit cards. Another case I remember is that before I went to the university in China, my parents asked me to bring lots of things along, such as the quilt, the pillow, toothbrushes, etc. Although I argued that I could manage to get them after arriving at the university, they still insisted that I should prepare those things in case.
Generally speaking, we post-90s enjoy the present life without worrying too much about the future. By contrast, our parents are usually prepared for crisis. It is hard to say which one is right, but they are merely different ways of living. In other words, all the diverse generations make up a colorful world.

  1. My parents have asked me bring lots of things, too. I think it is good for us to have more sense of urgency.
