There are infinite amount of rules in the theory of fengshui, from location and direction of buildings to shape, color and size of all kinds of objects. Althought I have always been considering some of the rules in fengshui as virtually nonsense, some of them turn out to be backed up by science. For example, there is a taboo in fengshui which says the main door should not be faced to the kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom. The version of fengshui gives the reason that if so, people would be threatened with fire, dirt, or danger so that it would be hard for them to make money. While there is also a scientific explanation: in that case, dirt and bacteria outside the house would go into inner rooms through the main door. If the place where people cook or sleep get polluted, people will be likely to get disease.

While in some other rules such as plants with thorns or pointed leaves in the bedroom will make one get into trouble with crooks, I don’t see any possible element of science or any rational reason.

In my point of view, fengshui is half science and half superstition. Some theories happen to have scientific explanations, while some are made out of thin air and don’t make any sense in terms of science, except that they might be psychologically affective to some people who indeed believe in fengshui. Up till now, I haven’t heard of anyone making a big fortune or success because of fengshui. So anyway, I won’t take fengshui serious, nor would I count on fengshui to make any difference in my life.
