Blog 4 - Mr Seto - Chen Chi - Tastes and Preferences

Differences

In my view, there are many differences between my generation which is also called Generation Y and the generation of my parents, baby boomers.

Firstly, we grew up in different environment. My mother has two siblings, that is to say a brother and a twin sister. They also lived with their grandparents. It was a big family but very common at that time. For me, I spent most time with my parents and I have no sibling.
Secondly, we got different education. Although the education system in China has yet to change totally, the materials, which people of two generations learned the knowledge from, were so different.
Then, political belief is not the same. The majority of baby boomers still believe in communism. On the contrary, perhaps many Generation Y-ers prefer capitalism. The fact which theory is better does not count, but the generation gap.
At last, the attitudes towards money are also different. For example, my parents like to save their salary or make investments for the future. However, I tend to spend the money now, like a hedonist.

In conclusion, there are oceans of differences between these two generations. If we have enough communication with the other group, everything will be okay.
