Blog 5- Mrs.Ivy- Wang Xiao (Vicky)- My thought of fengshui

Masters in fengshui thank China, especially the authorities of China.

Fengshui grows its popularity among Chinese in these years.  A master in fengshui can roughly earn at least one hundred thousand Yuan per year, and some even get ten million Yuan in a year.  As a result, the number of the people who are involved in doing the job about fengshui is increasing sharply.

Why fengshui becomes so popular in China?  I think, that the authorities of China attaches much importance to fengshui is the biggest reason.

Most of our authorities believe in fengshui very much, for they think fengshui can get rid of bad luck, and get a promote with mysterious but strong power.  When an authority is fired, people will think that the place he has worked in is filled with bad luck.  So, when the next authority comes into power, he needs masters in fengshui to help him be away from bad luck.  In fact, these masters just change the arrangement of some things slightly, and add some expensive decorations, and then they will charge the authority a large amount of money.  Afraid of bad luck, many authorities will pay as much as these masters demand.  In fact, most of them will use money that is from the people, and claim that it is used for their work.

In my opinion, no matter how anti-scientific fengshui is, as long as our authorities believe it, it will survive well in society.  It is likely that in a near future, these masters will be the richest people in China, and play an important role in our domestic economy.

  1. A brand new angle about fengshui! I am surprised to know that authorities of China play such a big part in the promotion of fengshui. However, I think some of your expressions should be rephrased, because sometimes they sound like Chinese expressions:P Looking forward to your next blog! Good luck!

  3. In your last paragraph you say "no matter how anti-scientific fengshui is, as long as our authorities believe it, it will survive well in society." This sentence let me think about the reason why superstitious things can survive in modern society. Once I talked about the existence of ghost with a friend, and he told me that he did not dare to declare that it did not exist in the world. It is really a contradictory thing that a lot of people who believe in science admit that superstitious things like ghosts should be created by human beings and are not real, but when they encounter some wierd things, they are willing to believe that superstitious things do exist. Every time when people want to totally eliminate their belief in superstitious things, they become frightened because they want to avoid the penalty for not respecting the superstitious things. This is the reality. Therefore, superstitious things will survive among people.
