Blog 5) "Mr Seto"-"Zhu Zikun"-"Fengshui"-"Theme: Fengshui"
Fengshui is a Chinese system of geomancy believed to use the laws of both Heaven (Chinese astronomy) and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. (Feng_shui. (n.d.). In Wikipedia. Retrieved April 2, 2012, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui)
In ancient China, Fengshui was an integral part of Chinese culture. The application of Fengshui was commonly seen almost everywhere. For instance, the kitchens of most houses did not face the main door, because people followed Fengshui strictly. Additionally, there was a true story about an emperor's strong belief in Fengshui. In Song dynasty, a village was said to have nearly perfect Fengshui, and the emperor was afraid that this good Fengshui would lead to a reproduction of a very capable leader who would likely overturn the emperor's dominance. Therefore, the emperor forced the villagers to move out of this particular area.
Undoubtedly, part of Fengshui is beneficial to our life; for instance, Fengshui lets people keep their toilets clean and tidy, because a dirty toilet could bring bad lucks. Indeed, a good hygiene prevents us from getting disease. Despite the advantages of Fengshui, I do not think we should depend too much on Fengshui. Some theories in Fengshui are somehow ridiculous; for example, one rule in Fengshui says that the head of a bed must not face the west. Moreover, some people who pretend to be experts in Fengshui are actually cheats who take advantage of people's lack of knowledge of Fengshui.
Anyway, we should take the essence of Fengshui and discard its dregs.
