Blog4-Mrs Pamela-Song Zhuokun (Kevin)-Differences between our parents and us

Differences between our parents and us

We are the generation that is quite different from our parents in many ways. To begin, we are more open to the fast changing world. For instance, we can more easily absorb some modern and advancing thoughts from foreign countries than our parents. However, this kind of free character also lead us to "a open mind" of spending money. That means, we always spend more money than our parents. Born in the peaceful times, we were brought up in good living conditions and with the dotage of our parents. Thus, we seldom make a budget before buying things and usually want to buy anything that is hip or hot at the moment. By contrast, our parents prefer to save money into the bank and just buy things which are necessary for their life. In addition, we have different tastes of clothes from our parents'. We pursue the kind of clothes which is fashionable and comfortable. "First-sight feeling" is extremely important for us. That's to say, we can buy whatever clothes we want without thinking of its cost because we have "fallen in love with it" at the first sight. However, our parents usually prefer to buy some clothes that is on sale. What they most care about is the price (whether it is cheap enough) and the quality of the clothes. Finally, I think a very important thing to remember is that we are the Internet generation. We depend much more on computers than our parents. More frequently, we prefer to use Internet to search some update information as well as chat with our friends. We have been immersed into the media; thus, there are many of us are "smart shoppers". Instead of being loyal to shop in the mall, we prefer to use Internet to buy many things, which we think is a more convenient way. At last, I want to say that we cannot judge which lifestyle is better between our parents' and ours. We should respect both of them, because they are both the symbols of paces of the times.

  1. You have made a comprehensive comparison between our parents and us, from our attitudes towards fashion, clothes, money, all the way to our use of the Internet. And I feel the same with you about these differences.
I also agree that we should be objective regarding the lifestyles of our two generations, which are a reflection of society and era.

We should respect and learn from each other.
