Blog 5-Mrs Pamela-Hu Yiyao(Scarlett)-"fengshui"

As we all know, "fengshui" is a Chinese traditional custom, which guides people to decide the location of a house and to choose a suitable way to place items in home. It was very famous in ancient China and people in that time believed that the right location of housing and items could bring them good luck and fortune.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of economics and the cross culture communication, "fengshui" becomes trend again in both eastern and western countries. Some people may think that "fengshui" does not have scientific basis and we could not believe what it says. In the past, I also held this opinion. However, after I read some rules about "fengshui", I feel that, in fact, some of them are reasonable and can really benefit us.

Here are some examples. Firstly, "fengshui" says that a toilet cannot be the centre of a house, otherwise the person living in this house will feel uncomfortable. Let us view this rule scientifically: If the toilet is in the centre, then the air will not be able to be circulated when there are no air purifiers. Because of that, the odor that the toilet releases will affect the inhabitants' moods. What is more, it may contain some harmful ingredients, which can make people unhealthy. Secondly, "fengshui" also says that a mirror should not face to the bed. It is uesful because when we just woke up and our minds are not clear, we may be scared by the things that reflected in the mirror.

From the two examples above, we can find that, actually, some rules of "fengshui" have scientific explanations. They are reallt useful in our daily life and benefit us. I think we can know more about "fengshui" and choose the scientific rules to apply to our house.

  1. i agree some of the rules in fengshui can be backed up by science. but i think we should practise fengshui selectively because i doubt there is still some element of superstition in it.

  2. I agree that some of the rules of fengshui have scientific explanations. However, there are still more theories of fengshui that cannot be proved by science. Although I do not totally believe in fengshui, I would like to use some rules of fengshui to make my life luckier in the future.
